Pikes Peak Hill Climb Tour
Saturday, August 12, 9am-2pm,
Pikes Peak Experience @ Penrose Heritage Museum
11 Lake Circle
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most legendary motorsports events in the world, and it’s right here in our own backyard! Drivers and teams from all over the world come to America’s Mountain every June to compete in an amazing array of machinery.
CCA’s own Chris Lennon, who is a Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Champion and author of “The Peak of Racing” will put you virtually behind the wheel, and recount some of the often-hilarious stories of some of the legends who have competed here.
The tour will focus on this legendary race (second only to the Indy 500 in longevity) and will travel what’s commonly referred to as “the most beautiful racecourse in the world”.
The tour will begin at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb Experience, right across the road from the Broadmoor hotel. There, participants will get an introduction to this legendary race, its drivers, and even see some of the legendary cars that have conquered the mountain over the years.
We will then head directly to the mountain itself.
Stops will be made along the way, where interesting and entertaining stories will be shared, and any questions answered. Stops are expected to be at the pit/paddock area for the race, Glen Cove and Devil’s Playground (which offers a view of about 4 miles of the 12.41-mile course). These have plenty of parking and offer beautiful settings. The tour will conclude on the 14,115-foot summit. There, we will visit the brand-new Summit House, where you are free to enjoy donuts or lunch (or just enjoy the views).
Registration for CCA Members for the tour will be $16 per per person and $21.00 for non-members.
